China Yantai Economic & Technological Development Area (YEDA) is one of the first 14 state-level development zones in China.
It covers an area of 228 square kilometers, with a total population of 360,000. YEDA has up to now attracted investments from 43 countries and regions, including from more than 40 Fortune 500 Companies. Among all the 54 state-level development areas in China, it ranks the 6th in terms of comprehensive economic strength.
In 2008, YEDA had a Gross Domestic Product of RMB 65 billion and a total export-import volume of USD23.5 billion. In recent years, in order to carrying out scientific development concept, YEDA has developed a strategy that focuses on energy efficiency and emissions reduction. In 2001, it was nominated by the UNEP and China’s State Environmental Protection Administration as the demonstration area for environmental management. In 2002, it was the first Chinese development zone to be awarded the certification of ISO14000 National Demonstration Area. In 2005, it became one of the first 13 pilot areas for developing a Circular (Recycle) Economy. YEDA has become a model industrial park for both Chinese and international investors.
